What is Speech & Language Therapy?

Speech & Language therapists work with children to improve language understanding and exploration, speech sound production, engagement in play, executive functioning, social communication, and cognitive-communication.

Whether it is with words, signs, facial expressions, gestures, or augmentative and alternative communication, our goal is to teach your child how to communicate effectively. At Bold Center successful Speech & Language therapy is achieved through the support of whole body processing, that means language is facilitated as children are playing, interacting with toys, participating in activities and moving their body to allow optimum neurological processing.

Treatment Sessions

Therapy will provide individualized, recommendations and treatment sessions that are tailored to meet the needs of your child with strategies for supports at home and in the community. We believe in making therapy functional and personally relevant to you and your child to promote success outside of the session. This is done through providing parent coaching, integrating therapy into daily routines and activities of daily living, and taking advantage of home, clinic, and community settings.

All treatment models are chosen to maximize the best approach to meet your child’s goals. Some examples might be:

  • Individual therapy sessions

  • Intensive treatment over multiple days

  • Naturally occurring social opportunities

  • Parent support & education within sessions

BOLD Center Approach

We believe in making therapy functional and personally relevant to you and your child to promote success outside of the session. This is done through providing parent coaching, integrating therapy into daily routines and activities of daily living, and taking advantage of home, clinic, and community settings.

The occupation of a child is PLAY! Therapy supports overall development and progression of skills by identifying activities that are motivating and engaging. As children learn and grow, they do this through interacting with a variety of tools, objects, and within a variety of environments or settings. This allows them to build foundational skills to support their continued development across the lifespan. If there are challenge areas which are negatively impacting their development, this can slow or stunt their progress in a variety of areas.

At BOLD center we promote development through therapeutic interventions of play, the use of fun varied equipment and exercise and movement routines, which may include music, technology devices, sports or exercise equipment and many other creative modalities.

Goal of Therapy

Speech Language pathologist identify areas of communication challenges through evaluation and observations of functional use of language during activities. They support children with difficulties making sounds to be easily understood, learning to express thoughts and ideas, and to become aware of social cues and interactions to participate with family and friends.
