Transition to Telehealth

BOLD Pediatric Therapy Center
Transition to Telehealth Story

It is a whole new world right now... What about the families who have children with special needs who depend on specialized programs and services every day? Many of these programs and services have been cancelled or suspended with little to no notice to support this sudden transition.

In the midst of this crisis and to keep everyone safe, out-patient programs have had to freeze most of their services, close their doors completely, and some even lay off all of their staff. BOLD Pediatric Therapy Center was prepared and has been able to continue to provide care to our children and families without a gap in services.

In the fall of 2019 BOLD Pediatric Therapy Center started researching telehealth therapy services for children and families who have challenges accessing therapy services.  In January 2020, we started piloting tele health therapy sessions and clinician trainings.  The first week of March, BOLD Pediatric Therapy Center recognized the need to increase the access to service immediately. We took that BOLD step and began offering tele health services to all families who needed to transition away from direct care services to stay safe and at home.

The move from a direct therapy model to a telehealth therapy model has been amazing. BOLD Pediatric Therapy Center has a philosophy that we join the family’s team in the therapeutic care for their child. We believe that no one knows that child better than the parent/ caregiver.  BOLD families are an active participant in the clinical process. During therapy sessions, clinicians actively coach, train, and educate families to feel more resourceful in the care of their child.

Clinicians have been able to seamlessly transition families to move from a direct therapy service model to a telehealth therapy service model.

For our children who are diagnosed with anxiety disorders and are feeling more stress --- we are consistent with our supports.
For our children who struggle with transitions and change --- we are present and consistent.
For our children who struggle with attention and regulation of their state --- we are providing environmental adaptations.
For our children who struggle with being able to actively and successfully participate in established routines --- we are able to support the family with setting up predictability in their daily activities.
For our children who struggle with motor skills and sensory processing --- we are able to coach families in new and progressing developmental play and engagement with activities in their home.

BOLD’s transition to tele health services has been seamless.  Our clinical staff has been virtually present. We are honored to be able to continue to hold and care for our children and their families when their established supports have changed or been halted during this challenging time.
